Customers take a 3-minute assessment and NakedPoppy’s patented beauty algorithm instantly places perfect-for-her beauty picks in her personalised boutique. The design and inclusion of a ‘your best colours’ page to the user journey means a way to create a more delightful experience by giving more payoff after completing the assessment. The resulting page builds trust, educates the user, and takes the guesswork out of the traditional colour-matching online beauty experience.

NakedPoppy chooses the most flattering makeup colours giving users the confidence to find products that’ll look amazing. The assessment calculates a personalised set of best makeup colours based on advanced colour science and using the personal attributes given by the user to reflect the aspects of their natural colouring. Ultimately the “Your Best Colours” page shows the most flattering shades for lip, eye, and cheek makeup then organises the entire online store to make it easy to browse makeup in ‘perfect-for-you’ hues.

NakedPoppy's work is based on 5 years of investment in proprietary technology and deep study of colour science. It builds on traditional “seasonal colour analysis”, which are advanced in four critical ways:

  • It's online and accessible — for free and instantly

  • NakedPoppy have done deep work to make it more inclusive and extend colour analysis to people of colour and those with grey hair

  • The extension of fashion principles refined for makeup

  • It's actionable — shop colours, find the perfect match against scored makeup and skincare products rated specifically for each user

The culmination of distilling the assessment into an easily digestible format drives conversion by building trust around the user parting with their time and information. The colour palettes and tips are mirrored in the browse experience and the YBC page is a welcome reprieve from typical e-commerce shopping experiences. Working with an illustrator to enhance the product experience was the clear choice to tie the brand design system together and create a delightful sharing experience that users were happy to show off. Post launch NakedPoppy found users not only using their personalised palettes for their makeup shopping online, but out in the real world to avoid confusion and wasted products. A clear indication of the colours that work for the user at a glance led to reduced frustration in colour matching and customer returns which also had a positive impact on repeat AOV as the trust was established and validated.
